TIAH Conventions

  1. North is always UP

  • Northbound means coming from the south, as in "from the south leg" of the intersection. For example, northbound right turn, abbreviated NBR, means coming from the south (going north), and turning right (turning onto the east leg of the intersection). Similar conventions are observed for the eastbound, westbound, and southbound directions.
  •
Another way to put it is:

           - northbound approach = south leg
           - southbound approach = north leg
           - eastbound approach = west leg
           - westbound approach = east leg
