TIAH Main Toolbox

This the main user interface for TIAH. The toolbox allows the user to select the volume input data format through the Select File Format option group at the top of the interface and provides easy access to the actual data files via three buttons on the left side of the box (AM File, PM File, and ID File).

The toolbox works in a compact mode (smaller form) and expanded mode (wide form with addition options or additional help information).

Here is the toolbox in compact mode:

and in expanded mode:

Basic Steps

Step 1. To get started with data selection and import, follow this process:

(a) Tell TIAH whether you will be using data from Synchro, Traffix, Excel or other file formats by checking one of the radio boxes as shown below. In this example we are using Traffix data.

(b) Click on the "AM File" button to select the 1st volume data file.

(c - optional) If using two data files (e.g. AM and PM or base and total volumes), click on the "PM File" to select the second file. Note that TIAH does not require that two files be used.

(d - optional) When using Traffix data, TIAH can display the intersection ID number together with the intersection name during the intersection symbol insertion. If using the appropriate intersection blocks, these street names can also be displayed along the edges of the blocs. To do that, TIAH needs the "ID File", which is simply the Traffix network file for the current network. This file can be quickly "written out" from Traffix as illustrated below:

Once the .NET file exists, click on the "ID File" button to select it -

- and check the "Display Intersections" (and optionally the "Insert Street Names") boxes:

Note that if using a different source format, such as Synchro volume files, the "ID File" button would be inactive as the Synchro data files used by TIAH already contain the intersection names internally.

Step 2. Still in the main TIAH toolbox, set additional options for the current session:

(a) Check the "Add Leader" box to be able to add leader lines for each intersection symbol during the inserting process. Leader lines can be removed after the import process is finished.

(b) Check the "Display "0(0)"" box to show all movements, even those with zero volumes, and their corresponding arrows in the intersection volume symbol

(c) Check the "Prefix" and⁄or the "Suffix" boxes and enter a character in the space provided to display the character of your choice in front of (prefix) or after (suffix) the volume value in the intersection symbol.

(d) To affect the rotation angle of the intersection symbols in your drawing, select "Uniform" (all symbols will be placed in a "north is up"  configuration); "On Insert" (rotate each symbol while inserting it into your exhibit); and "Match Last" (match the rotation used last time). Rotation angle of one or all intersection blocks can be controlled by selecting one of the three options in the [Rotation Behavior] group. The [Uniform] option will maintain the same angle for all intersections.  Simply press a key while being prompter by TIAH for the insertion point of the first intersection block and follow the prompts to specify the angle in degrees, then continue inserting the blocks as usual. The [On Insert] option allows you to select the angle visually for each intersection block while it is being inserted. Note that the intersection block is oriented <North up> when the cursor line extends to the right from the center of the block. The [Match Last] option will set the default angle at value used last time volumes were imported.

Note: If you select "On Insert", only the basic "cross" of the intersection volume symbol is visible while rotating it - keeping the cursor crosshairs to the right of the intersection block⁄symbol will set the symbol in the "north is up" direction (see below).

(e) The relative scale of the intersection volume symbol can be set to "Match Last Scale" (last used) or can be set by clicking on the "Select Scale" button (uncheck the "Match Last Scale" box to enable the "Select Scale" button.

(Click on "Done" when finished, to return to the main toolbox)

Step 3. Click the "Proceed >>" button on the right to start inserting the intersection volumes. Alternatively, if your drawing already contains the intersection symbols with IDs matching the intersection IDs in the data files selected in step 1(b), the user can press the "Refresh Data" button to have TIAH re-populate the intersection volumes with the volumes contained in the newly selected <or updated> data files (step 1(b)).

Top Menu of the Main Toolbox

The top menu bar in the Main Toolbox provides access to additional Options, a facility to Contact TIAH support, and a link to this Help file:

1. Options menu

See this Section for ore information abut the Options toolbox.

2. Contact menu

Selecting TIAH Wish List will launch your default email client and start a message to wishlist@tiahelper.com. Use this option to et us know what other features you would like to see in the next TIAH release.

Selecting Contact TIAH Support will start an email message to support@tiahelper.com.

The TIAH Users Forum menu item will start your default browser and direct to the TIAH website. Note that in order to access the TIAH user forum, you will need to register to the website (a quick and easy step that will enable you to access additional features of the site).

3. Help menu

The Help menu item will open this help file.

Selecting the About item will open a box with information about the version of TIAH installed on your PC.

The License Info menu item will open a form showing TIAH license data.

Other TIAH Functions Accessible from the Main Toolbox

The four buttons provided in the right-hand-side of the Main Toolbox provide quick access to several key tools useful during exhibit creation. These are also accessible from the TIAH drop-down menu and have been described in detail here:
